SOFI Der erste Entwurf	SOFI The first Design
Ich suchte schon seit längerem nach einem bewohnbarem Boot für Binnengewässer. Die meisten Entwürfe für Hausboote glichen mehr Sommerhäuschen auf Pontons als einem zünftigen Boot. In einer Sendung über das Ruhrgebiet im Zweiten sah ich endlich das, was mir vorschwebte, die ESCARGOT von Philip Thiel. Ein Boot mit dem gewissen Etwas, aber leider zu klein.	For quite some time, I have been searching for a habitable boat to be used on inland waterways. Most houseboat designs looked more like a cottage on pontons than a proper boat. At last, I saw the design I had imagined on German TV: the ESCARGOT by Philip Thiel A boat with that certain something. Alas, it was too small.
Glücklicherweise hatte er noch ein größeres Hausboot mit Stehhöhe entworfen: Das JOLI BOAT	Fortunately he had also designed the larger houseboat JOLI BOAT enough headroom to stand in.

Damit war ich aber immer noch nicht ganz zufrieden. Ich verlängerte das Boot von 7 m auf 8 m und die Wasserlinie auf die ganze Bootslänge. Die ursprüngliche Kimmlinie blieb dabei erhalten.	I was not fully content with the design, so I lengthened the boat from 7m to 8m and extended the waterline to entail the full length of the boat, while preserving the original line of chine.

Meine Absicht dabei war, eine erträgliche Reisege-
schwindigkeit zu erreichen. Die Form habe ich auch
etwas verändert. Aber das ist Geschmackssache.

This way I will be able to reach a tolerable cruise speed.
I have also altered the shape a little bit, but that's only
a matter of taste.

Geplant ist eine konventionelle Bauweise mit Sperrholz auf
Spanten, als Antrieb ein Volvo Penta 13 PS (D1-13) mit
Saildrive, um Platz zu gewinnen.

Projected construction is conventionaly plywood on ribs,
drive a Volvo Penta 13 HP (D1-13) with saildrive.
So I get more room.

Die Grundlagen für den neuen Entwurf waren Philip Thiels
FRIENDSHIP und die auf 7 m verkürzten Linien von SOFI.

Breite 2,4 m
Verdrängung 2,5 t

Motor Yanmar 14 PS Saildrive
oder Volvo Penta D1-13 B 12.2 PS

Das vorn hochgezogene Dach lässt
volle Stehhöhe in der ganzen Kajüte zu.
Auf der CAD_Zeichnung reicht das
Kajütdach noch bis zum Bug. Das sieht
aber mehr wie eine Dampflok aus.

and lines of SOFI shortened down to 7 m

The ahead lifted roof does let fully
headroom in the whole cabin.
On CAD drawing reaches the cabin roof
up to the bow. But it looks more like
a steam engine.

Baubeginn

Die Spanten werden auf einer gut 6 qm
großen Platte aufgezeichnet.Ein lausiger Job,
besonders wenn ich mal wieder einen Fehler
endeckt habe.

The battocks are plotted on a huge board of 27 sqf.
It´s a lousy job, especially when I find that I´ve once
again made a mistake.

Maße auf Planken

Wenn Sie größer als 180 cm sind,
müssen alle Maße der Tabelle um 5% vergrößert werden.
Die Verdrängung beträgt dann 2,2 t.

If you are taller than 6 ft, you can enlarge
the measurements in this table by 5%.
Displacement is then 2,2 metric tons.

Make sure that you don´t convert the metric dimensions
to imperial! The simplest way to make sure is to use metric ruler and tape.
I also have measuring tapes with feet and inches for plans from the U.S.

Auf dieser Platte werden die Spantlehren
aus Sperrholzstreifen montiert.

Battocks´ jigs made from ply ply strips will be mounted on this board.
